How many times have you walked up to the deli counter, delicately pulled a number from the dispenser, and then waited (and waited) while the people in front of you placed their orders? You anxiously stare at your number, willing the next number to be called is yours! I am in a never-ending line at the deli counter and it feels like I’ve drawn ticket #999. As each number is called, I can’t help but think about all the steps I have ahead of me. Currently they are Serving Customer #18:
Ticket no. 18: I can see my turn is next! My village is profoundly magnificent. Thank you to everyone who read my story, offered kind words and prayers, and invited me to be a part of the IVF and SMBC community. I am overwhelmed by your outpouring of love and support.
Ticket no. 134: I am currently waiting for my genetic test results. My absolute top priority in selecting a sperm donor is identifying the healthiest donor that aligns with my test results.
Ticket no. 274: Anxiously anticipating that I am selected for a Hebrew Free Loan.
Ticket no. 317: I have applied for two grants to help fund this journey. I hope I hear back from them with good news.
HARD STOP on waiting for my turn if I cannot obtain funding. If I cannot secure funding, the dream is over, for now at least.
Ticket no. 419: At the end of the month, I have an appointment with a mental health practitioner as part of consultation when using donor sperm. A requirement to proceed when using a donor.
Ticket no. 592: Perhaps the most important of the steps (outside of funding of course), will start on July 12 when I am scheduled to officially begin the IVF process. After approximately two weeks of injections, I’ll undergo an egg retrieval procedure.
Ticket no 613: How many eggs are quality? How many turn into embryos? How many test normal and turn into blasts for potential transfer?
Ticket no. 739: Praying that there is at least one healthy embryo to blast to be transferred in September.
Ticket no. 999: Commonly known as TWW (Two-Week Wait) after transfer to take a pregnancy test. Hopefully then it will truly be my turn.
